We now use our criminal justice system to label people of color “criminal” then we discriminate against them in almost all of the Jim Crow ways

More black men under state control today than were enslaved in 1850
As of 2004 more black men disenfranchised than in 1870 — the year the 15th amendment made it unconstitutional to deny right to vote

In major American cities (i.e. Chicago) more than ½ working age black men have criminal records
The New Jim Crow is something akin to a racial caste system

For those who use the success of Oprah or Obama to dispute this, they should be reminded that there have always been exceptions – No caste system has ever governed all blacks – even during slavery there were free blacks
