Saving America from Herself

Saving AmericaWhy is President Trump acting against the people of his nation? Why does he repeatedly provoke hurtful behavior that creates an atmosphere of fear and disruption? What causes him to have such disdain for innocent people who have done no harm? There is something incredibly amiss about the conduct and priorities displayed by an executive who was placed in office with a minority vote on the eve of a much divided country. Instead of seeking solutions and remedies to unite and bring people together, he intentionally deepens the wounds and broadens the division. But, the situation gets worse and teeters on the verge of exploding into global disintegration.

There is no logical or legitimate reason for the President to act with such precise, reckless abandonment and disregard for the lives of individuals, families, and communities disrupted by his thoughtless and callous executive decisions.

There is no logical or legitimate reason for the President to act with such precise, reckless abandonment and disregard for the lives of individuals, families, and communities disrupted by his thoughtless and callous executive decisions. Expanding his reach into other nations does not dissipate the extreme, irrational danger and damage he poses and condones. If what he says and does represent what he imagines will “make America great again,” then he is more than merely misguided. He is leading the country on a collision course toward disaster.

How can We the People rescue the President and turn the United States of America in a direction that will heal the nation and protect all her people? In an emerging era of Nazism, rebirth of public Klan intimidation, declared “national exceptionalism,” and overt white inferiority complexes, this is a moment that requires higher intelligence than what emanates from the White House or Congress. We need a collective commitment to a better way of being together as a people who truly respect the integrity of creation and values the sacredness of humanity.

This is not a time to make matters worse by resisting evil. Instead, now is the time to launch a competition of good and honorable deeds. Every person who believes in the power of goodness can join a campaign or movement established to solicit the very best within us. We begin by recognizing everyone has the capacity to perform good deeds. All of us can imagine a world and society in which life thrives. We can honor the gift of life by elevating the standard of living for children and elders. We can make the planet even more beautiful by attending to the needs of our communities. The key to setting things right and correcting the course the President and some members of Congress apparently want to lead and for us to follow requires a re-calibration of our values and priorities.

We reside in a global reality where communities are rich in diversity of ideas, experiences, cultures, religions, languages, and people of every race and status. There is room for difference without conflict. We need to imagine what is possible, what is needed, and what we together are capable of achieving. There is no time, need, or reason to dwell on fear or conflict.

Whatever is driving the President, Attorney General, and a few members of Congress to behave with such extreme bad manners and posture themselves in the depths of madness, We the People must be determined to go forward together toward a better way. What is so amazing about this moment is that we are free to do real good and compete among ourselves to perform with honor in out doing each other in doing good deeds.

There is no evidence we can change the hearts and minds of any chief executive intent on executing dangerous and extremely bad policies. We may not be able to convince lawmakers not to enact regulations and legislation that harm innocent children and families. What we can do without any limitations is to offer protection to anyone who is placed in harm’s way. We can stand with people who are afraid and need our support. We can bless people who seek a better way. We can put our highest ideals into action. And it takes all of us together to do what is right, just, and good. We must do it now.
