Join WeSayEnough Week of Solidarity

WeSayEnough

2017 has begun and I’m reaching out to see if you’d be willing to join together as the Interfaith Organizing Iniative’s WeSayEnough Campaign in a week of solidarity organized around the principle of fasting.

We’ve realized that as we get closer to the inauguration of Trump as our next president the tension, fear, anxiety and rage of our people has been reaching palpable proportions. Many folks are gearing up for actions around the country and systems of sanctuary, particularly for our immigrant brothers and sisters, are being put in place.

We’ve come up with the idea of organizing a week around the principle of fasting for our collective strength and power and creating a space for unifying in a shared practice as a way to counter the pressure of the our current reality.

Prior to the end of the year a few of us gathered to determine how we and the IOI table can support the work of our individual organizations AND enter this moment in a way that counters the spirit of hate and brutality unleashed by the Trump election and the development of his supremacist, patriarchal, xenophobic and homophobic cabinet. We determined that the best way to engage as an IOI table will be to provide moments of sustenance and solidarity built on an intentional caring for ourselves, our families, our communities and our earth. We’ve come up with the idea of organizing a week around the principle of fasting for our collective strength and power and creating a space for unifying in a shared practice as a way to counter the pressure of the our current reality.

In many traditions the fast is a time for focus, clarity and strength. It is a moment of of intentional corporeality AND an aim for spiritual connectedness. Therefore we are asking folks to join us beginning January 14th thru January 20th in a sun up to sun down fast. As a part of this ritual we will be holding a 15-minute virtual meeting called “SoulFood for SoulForce” to connect and support those in the fast, the various movements that we all come out of, and the spiritual traditions that provide the wellspring for our strength and commitments to justice.

As stakeholders in the IOI I hope that you will all:

  • Join a national call designed to outline the spiritual and political significance of this call and the ways in which we will support this call to action during the fasting week. The call is scheduled for Wednesday, January 11 at 12:30pm ET.
  • Send the call to fast to your network and encourage folks to join us by making a pledge to fast on the Fast4Power pictition. You can take a look at the pictition here: Fast4Power

I do realize that many of you are engaged in a variety of actions and calls leading up to the inauguration and I hope that you will see this as a moment to support you, your leadership and your work and not another task you are being asked to perform.

charlene sinclairIf you are interested in strategizing about how to use this intentional space to support and sustain your work please reach out to me. I would love to be in thought and strategy conversations with each of you.
